Alexey Danilin, the designer behind the Silhouettes lamp, drew inspiration from the Russian Matryoshka doll. The lamp, like the doll, consists of forms of different scales that create a unified object. This design principle not only allows for a change in the product's design but also engages the user in a playful interaction.
The Silhouettes lamp's uniqueness lies in its ability to change the location of the metal "silhouettes". This feature allows the user to personalize the lamp's design. Furthermore, the design's compactness contributes to material and logistics savings, making it an environmentally friendly choice. The lamp is available in white, black, red, and brass, making it a versatile addition to any modern interior.
The lamp is constructed using a metal frame, frosted glass, an LED board, and a fabric wire. Standing at 500mm high, the lamp's technical specifications are designed to ensure optimal functionality and aesthetic appeal. The lamp's design allows for interaction, as all metal "silhouettes" are mobile and can be rearranged to alter the product's design.
The Silhouettes project began in March 2018 in Moscow and was completed in May 2018. The design's underlying research aimed to create a movable structure that could adapt to any person and assemble to save space, promoting ecological sustainability. The main challenge faced during the design process was the technical consideration of the intersection of "metal" silhouettes in the lamp's lower body, ensuring stability and inventing fasteners for the wire.
The Silhouettes lamp was designed following the principle of Matryoshka dolls, consisting of three metal elements of different scales. These elements can be rotated to change the lamp's appearance, catering to the customer's taste. The lamp's design was recognized for its outstanding expertise and innovation, winning the Silver A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2021.
